The University of Illinois Pre-Vet Club is designed to give students information on different fields of Veterinary Medicine and other animal-related careers. We invite speakers to come to our meetings and talk about their careers and the opportunities it has offered them. Some of the speakers include equine veterinarians, chiropractors, wildlife veterinarians, researchers, specialists, veterinary students, the Dean of Admissions of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, and more. Visit our Minutes page for highlights of what the guest speakers have covered during our meetings. Please keep in mind that as we progress through the year, Minutes may take a little bit to load as there is a lot of information provided from the meetings.
We also attend an annual symposium for pre-vetters, have various fundraisers such as dog washes and taffy apple sales, go horseback riding, visit the Feline Exotic Rescue Center in Indiana, volunteer in the wildlife ward at the U of I Vet School, and provide the opportunity to attend an exotics symposium. Check back often for our list of current events and scheduled meetings.
Our mission is to give all interested students a general overview of the different career paths that are available in veterinary medicine. We also provide advice on the admissions process into Vet School and how to succeed the first-year Vet School program. Q&A covers some of the questions and answers that have come up about the admissions process and what is expected from the applicants. You will find a sample timeline and some course suggestions as well as GPA requirements at Tips. A listing of classes that apply towards your Science GPA can be found at Courses. Our Links page is a great resource for more information on animal health, Pre-Vet clubs, symposiums, and veterinary schools in the United States and Canada. |
